Sandys was born in Norwich. His surname was Sands. Pre-Raphaelite British artist. Was friends with Dante Gabriel Rossetti, after drawing a caricature of the artist sitting on a donkey. Was also friends with James Whistler. Most of his paintings and drawings were of women. Illustrated less than twenty-five books and magazines. Produced woodcuts, drawings, and painted portraits. Worked in chalk, also. His oil paintings include Mary Magdalene, Morgan le Fay, Medea, Helen of Troy, and Love's Shadow.
Frederick Sandys died in London on 25th June 1904.
