Bartolomeo Manfredi (1582 - 1622) was born near Mantua. He spent most of his career in Rome and was a leading follower of Caravaggio. He painted an array of subjects but is remembered for his scenes of taverns and soldiers. None of Manfredi signed or documented works are in existence. However, around forty paintings initially attributed to Caravaggio are now considered to be Manfred work.
Bartolomeo Montagna (1450 - 1523) most likely was trained in Venice, but he worked in Vicenza. He was a leading painter there and received many altarpiece commissions for churches in the area.
