Cesare Dandini born in Florence in 1596, was a pupil of Francesco Curradi and Cristofano Allori. He was the older brother of Vincenzo and uncle of Pietro. He was one of the important early Florentine Baroque painters, who distinguished himself in the Florentine school because he abandoned the morbid naturalization, like the followers of Cigoli, for a lucid, Caravaggesque style in painting which would lead the way for the sensual and clear style of Carlo Dolci. Dandini’s works can be found in the Sagrestia in the Chiesa SS. Annunziata, dated 1625, and in the churches of San Michele in Pontorme, San Lino in Volterra, and Sacramento in Ancona. Other paintings of his are in the Los Angeles County Museum, the Suida Manning Collection in New York and the Bargagli Petrucci Collection. Cesare Dandini died in his native city in 1658.
