Giovanni Lanfranco (1582 - 1647) first studied in Parma under Agnostino Carracci and admired the work of Correggio. He completed the frescoes in the Sala Regia in the papal Palazzo del Quirnale in 1617. His paintings in the mid 1620 incorporated an innovative use of space and diagonals that were reminiscent of Tintoretto art. Lanfranco work on the dome of San Andrea della Valle in Rome was the epitome of High Baroque style and combined Carracci and Correggio techniques. He then worked in Naples from 1634 to 1646 on the Cappella del Tesoro cupola in Naples Cathedral. Lanfranco returned to Rome upon its completion in 1646, where he remained until his death a year later.
