Lorenzo Lotto (1480 - 1556) trained in Giovanni Bellini studio along with Giorgione and Titian. Rather than imitate Venetian styles, he was more interested in the work of Albrecht Durer, Hans Holbein, and Raphael. He worked with the latter on the Vatican apartments in 1508. He was a talented and popular Mannerist portrait artist. Lotto lost his voice and some eyesight in 1550. He then moved into a monastery in Loreto and joined the order two years before his death.
