Pieter De Grebber (1600 - 1653) originally studied in his native Haarlem under his father Frans. He then worked under Hendrick Goltzius, a period that strongly influence the development of his departure from the popular Baroque style. De Grebber preferred historical subjects and depicted them in large paintings for private homes and also altarpieces. He joined the Haarlem painter guild in 1632 and became its dean ten years later. He was also thought to have worked at courts in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Hollstein.
