Richard Parkes Bonington (1802 - 1828) Born in England, Richard Parkes Bonington moved to France with his family at the age of 15. He started out in watercolors and was taught by Louis Francia. Bonington then attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and studied under Antoine-Jean Gros. After meeting Delacroix and both sharing an equal admiration for John Constable work, the two artists traveled across England in 1825 and eventually shared a studio. Bonington landscapes won a gold medal at the Paris Salon because of their atmospheric effect and originality. At the age of 26, Bonington contracted tuberculosis and died in London in 1828.
